Passivation
At BDF, Inc, we offer passivation per ASTM-A967-05. Passivation is an acid based process that changes stainless steel from an “active” state, in which it actively corrodes, to a "passive” state, in which corrosion is resisted. In addition, iron contaminates that become embedded in the surface of the stainless steel during handling and fabrication are dissolved, greatly reducing the potential of surface rust on your stainless parts, something that confuses and frustrates many.
As shown by the samples pictured, the passivation process enhances the naturally occurring oxidation that makes stainless steel so corrosion resistant in the first place. In order for stainless steel to offer it’s full corrosion resistance after fabrication, it must be passivated. It is obvious by the presence/lack of rust which sample has been passivated and which has not.
At BDF, we have the in-house capability to passivate your manifolds before we ship them. This is a great option if your manifold will be put into service immediately after fabrication and will not be coming in contact with iron or steel. This will ensure a long, corrosion and rust free life for your manifolds.
We can also passivate parts that you supply, as long as they fit in our tank. Tank dimensions are 96" long x 48" wide x 48" deep. Same day turn-around is usually possible. Contact us for more information.
